Ferns, Succulent and Cacti |

|
Some of the Ferns grow very easily where ever they found wet soil and no bright sun. To
cultivate Ferns like the Adiantum, also called Silver Dollar Fern, indoors in pots
you should provide them with strong light but no direct sunlight. They like very high humidity. So many
friends have them in bathrooms. Do not overdo it with watering. Others like the Asplenium Nidus,
also known as the Bird's Nest Fern, is growing very good, if it is attached to a tree or has got
just a rock in our humid tropical climate. If this fern gets enough warmth and humidity, it will become
a large radial "crown" that really reminds of a bird's nest.
Among the Cacti and the Succulents the Agave and the Aloe Vera are my favourites.
Once in her lifetime, that can be between 10 and 35 years, the Agave grows a tall flowered stem,
that rises up to 15 - 20 meters. The leaves are sharply toothed. (It really hurts!!)
The Aloe Vera has an old tradition on our island of Bali.
Since generations the fluids of its leaves was taken as shampoo for our hair. The Aloe Vera prefers
a warm and dry spot in my garden and well-drained soil. |
